Auxiliary Sector Coordinator - Sector Miami
Sector Miami extends for about 150 miles along the south-eastern Florida coastline from the Ft. Pierce Inlet, south to the Lake Worth Inlet, Port Everglades, and Port of Miami, ending at the Homestead Air Reserve Station, south of Miami. Bounded east and west by the Atlantic Ocean and the Florida Everglades, Sector Miami is headquartered on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach.
Over 1,000 Auxiliarists serve in this area that is known for its diversity of cultures and languages. Visiting (seasonal) Auxiliarists frequently participate in activities, adding a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie to the local flotillas. Navigable waterways include the Intracoastal Waterway, east-bound rivers spilling from Lake Okeechobee, and canals that lace together communities and cities.
Division 6 is located in Miami-Dade County and has 7 flotillas that support Station Miami Beach, as well as the Marine Safety and Security Team stationed in Homestead. One flotilla is made up exclusively of members in air operations that support the Coast Guard Air Station at Opa-Locka.
Division 3 is located in Broward and southern Palm Beach Counties and has 5 flotillas that support Station Ft. Lauderdale. In addition, members of this Division, overseen by the USCG, voluntarily restored and relighted the historic Hillsboro Lighthouse in August 2000 and continue to maintain it.
Division 5 is located in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucy Counties. It has 6 flotillas that support Stations Ft. Pierce and Lake Worth Inlet.
In a region where millions of residents and tourists with boats of all types and sizes frequent our waterways year-round, we are dedicated to increasing public awareness of marine safety, vessel safety, boating education, and emergency preparedness. In addition, we encourage Auxiliarists to specialize and train in skills that directly support the stations. We are guided by the Coast Guard's core values of Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty in everything we do. We proudly serve alongside our active duty and reserve counterparts in supporting Sector Miami.
